Too many Utah students live in fear of math. The National Center for Education Statistics reports, for the year 2003, that 79% of 4th grade students were not proficient in math. The number for 8th graders was 72%. Math skills are critical today with the technological advancement in our society.

Students start with the concrete, work to the “ah ha, I see it”, then verbalize it – teach it –- and lastly use paper and pencil to gain mastery of the concepts.
