Dyslexia Reading Problems – What We Do

Dyslexia Is Correctable

Matthew, an adult, said, "I've never been a reader because I have dyslexia." His interpretation of dyslexia was that he reverses letters like b's and d's, words like was and saw, and numbers like 13 and 31. Because he had these difficulties, he quit reading when in first and second grades and fell years behind his age group over time. He accepted the position that dyslexia is a permanent learning problem.

Kids or adults now don't have to live with dyslexia. It is correctable. The root of the problem starts with how the brain processes information. The real solution is found by improving processing skills important for educational success.

Terry found success for her daughter Mikayla, "I enrolled my daughter in this program because she was way below her grade reading level. She was constantly mixing up her letters (b's and d's etc.) and had no confidence in reading or spelling. Now that has all changed. She loves to volunteer to read. I am so proud of her. I love this program."

Children burdened with dyslexia have a frustrating time learning to read, spell, and write. Parents and teachers know how difficult it is to teach such a person to read, spell, and write. Language arts classes are a pain for these students.

When children fail to learn to read as well as their peers they often give up on school, some develop behavioral problems, and almost all develop a low self-esteem about their ability to do school work. Dyslexia is a crushing blow to school achievement every year they are in school.

Symptoms of dyslexia include:

  • Letter, word, and number reversals. Students have chronic trouble differentiating between b and d, p and q, 13 and 31, was and saw and many more.
  • A lack of ability to blend sounds, segment sounds, and connect sounds and letters.
  • In a wider sense dyslexia makes it difficult to process graphic symbols. Letters and numbers are symbols. Processing single symbols are difficult. Putting them together in sentences and paragraphs and chapters of a book makes the task overwhelming.

Most parents are disappointed in strategies recommended to assist the dyslexic child. Most strategies and programs are accommodation activities. They make the fatal flaw of accepting the reading disorder as permanent and fixed. Accepting the disability as a life sentence then spawns strategies to "live" with the disorder, to make the best of the disorder, or work around the disorder. This is a terrible error.

Learning Solutions of Utah takes an entirely different approach to reading problems.

By definition dyslexia is a developmental processing disorder. With dyslexia, a part of the brain is not developed enough to handle the load of reading and spelling to standard. How shall we proceed? Processing deficiencies can now be improved.

Learning Solutions first identifies that part of the brain that is weak and then through the right exercises, with enough intensity, and lots of repetition that undeveloped part of the brain is trained to work properly. When the development deficiency is improved, dyslexia disappears. It is no longer a problem. The solution is a life-long benefit. Children or adults no longer have to live with the learning problem of dyslexia.
